The Youth will also be enjoying and learning about the local tribe from talks with the Indian Chiefs descendents, a visit to the local Indian Museum, sleeping in Teepees, enjoying a salmon feed and to top all of this off - visiting the local water park!

Youth Winter Retreat in McCall!

Youth Service Project at Boise Rescue Mission's River of Life on Sunday, February 7th from 4:15 - 8:00 p.m.

The Youth will meet and depart from the church at 3:45 sharp and volunteer serving dinner and doing some light maintenance from 4:15 - 8 pm. Parents will need to pick their youth up at 8 p.m. at the River Of Life at 575 S. 13th St. Closed toed shoes are required and conservative work clothes are appropriate. Boise Rescue Mission specifically addressed the request for conservative tops (i.e. T-shirts) to our young ladies in the group.

Tubing At Bogus Basin - Monday, January 18th!

Come join the fun as we travel out to the Farmstead on Friday night 10/23 and find our way through the Corn maze in the dark and hopefully survive the "Field of Screams"! Meet at Trinity at 7 p.m. (eat dinner before you come!) and bring $20. We will return to Trinity around 10:30 or 11 p.m. and will than enjoy music, food, games, worship, food, games, movie, wii, games, food, friends, fun, fun & more fun! Don't miss out! Boise River Float & Pizza!

Plan to meet at Barber Park at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22nd as we try and stay cool by floating the Boise River! If you have a raft or tube, you are welcome to bring it! Afterwards, we will be transported back to the Church and enjoy some pizza before heading home. Youth Boating Day with the Briningers

Plan to to get wet & have fun! You can either meet at the Church at 12:30 and get a ride up to the Lucky Peak docks or you can meet at the very first dock after you cross the dam at 1 p.m. Wear your swimsuit, bring your sunscreen, towel, and get ready for a fabulous day boating w/ the Briningers! The plan is to be back to the Church between 6 and 7 p.m.., or you can be picked up at the docks prior to that.

Have you ever wanted to take your youth pastor down? Well here's your chance. You'll have multiple opportunities to paintball him till he cries. Still not convinced this will be awesome? How about forming a delta squad on the field and systematically take one by one out until you are crowned the champion of paintball? Or you could play Commandos for Jesus and every person you paint becomes a Christian. Well enough of that. Seriously you should join us. Important: Make sure and wear long durable pants that are thick enough to withstand a paintball, ie Jeans or carrharts, and closed toed shoes. Also make sure and wear a light jacket, chest protector, baggy sweatshirt or something similar to protect your torso from the possible pain of a paintball. Friday night, May 8th, from 6pm-9pm we are rock climbing at Boise Peak Fitness. We are meeting at Boise Peak Fitness (Directions can be found here http://www.boisepeakfitness.com/location.htm ) at 6pm. Fellowship Movie Night!

Join us as we spend the evening in fellowship eating burgers and watching Pixar's latest and greatest movie at Edwards 21. We are vanning over to the theater from Trinity, leaving at 6pm, and catching a bite to eat before the movie. We will be back at 10pm. Spring Break Bowling Before Youth Group!

Friends, Wednesday, March 25th, we are going bowling! If you are one of the lucky few who are staying in beautiful Boise during your Spring Break then join us as we spend a few hours throwing large heavy bowling balls at tiny unsuspecting pins. We will bowl in the afternoon and then head back to the church where pizza will be waiting for us. Weather should be great so we'll hang out and then have youth group together afterwards until 8 o'clock! If you are here in town i hope to see you!

30 Hour Famine Details

We are meeting at First Presbyterian Church (Downtown Boise on State Street) at 6pm for the official start of the famine. The famine will run until tomorrow night at 6pm at which point we will share in a closing meal with one another. Parents are invited to pick up their students from First Pres. at 6:30pm. We hope to see you all there! It is going to be an incredible weekend of fun and camaraderie in fasting together.

Crosswise Fall Retreat

Our Fall Retreat is being finalized! It will be a wonderful time to renew ourselves in continuing our spiritual formation through the study and exhortation of Scripture at a cabin in Donnelly, Idaho. We will leave here Friday the 7th of November around 6pm and return Sunday the 9th around 2 in the afternoon, giving plenty of time for you to complete homework and catch up on household duties, not to mention you have all of friday off from school! We'll be bringing the projector for worship in the cabin as well as for a late night movie on Saturday. We hope to go to the Gold Fork Hot Springs on Saturday afternoon before dinner and relax in the naturally heated water. Steve Gross has also offered to lead a very short hike to a "Lord of the Rings" like grove close to their cabin for whoever would like to take part in that as well. We will spend a lot of time in fellowship with one another, playing crazy games and enjoying the presence of God as we seek to know what this passage of Scripture means: "Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God." (1st Corinthians 10:31). I hope you can join us.

The cost is $60/Student and it includes everything (including an awesome T-Shirt to remember the event). We need to know who is going 2 weeks prior so that we can order t-shirts based on size and prepare for the retreat! It's going to be awesome!!!

Two Fall Programming Notes

This Fall, Xwise will be implementing two new programs to strengthen the faith of the students’ and to encourage fellowship.

The first will be a girls small group which will happen every Wednesday night from 5:30 to 6:30 (before youth group, during GPS dinner) where they will be discussing a book together and sharing life. This place will be a time for deepening their lives as disciples of our Lord and Savior, as well as spending time sharing prayer requests, concerns, and strengthening their relationships in fellowship.

The second program will be another weekly event, Sunday Morning Bible Study, taking place every Sunday morning at 9:30am. This will be a time for those who are desiring a slower and deeper walkthrough in scripture. We will provide donuts and orange juice and it is our hope that the students who come will sit with us during the contemporary service after.

Both of these programs fulfill our desire to nurture and develop disciples which is our overarching goal in the youth ministry. We would appreciate your continued prayer support that these new programs might be to the glory of God and the nourishment of His people.

Sawtooth Wilderness Trek

We began the trek from the all-too familiar Pettit lake trailhead. The first day was not without it's snags however. We waited for roughly an hour after arriving, hoping the thunderstorm and pouring rain would subside and we would have some blue sky for the hike ahead. Luckily the clouds vanished revealing the bluest sky some of the students had ever seen. We finished divvying out trail mix and began our journey into the wilderness. We hiked up from Pettit lake over the divide north and down into the yellowbelly-macdonald lake basin. From here we explored the lakes, which were half a mile apart. While gazing at the marshy edges and crystal clear middle of MacDonald lake we heard a tree fall. Just previously on the trail another hiker had the decency to warn me about a black bear they saw a few miles up the trail. Immediately i thought that a black bear had pushed it over, after all they love climbing trees. I sauntered over in a stealth like fashion to where i had heard the crash. What do my eyes behold? A two foot wide tree laying in the bambles of the forest, sawdust still floating in the air, no critter to be seen. Phew. In all my years of hiking i have never simply seen a tree just fall over for now apparent reason. It appeared that the roots were rotten, but i'm no treeologist. Of course i had the nerve to ask the students, "If a tree falls in the woods does anyone hear it," of which i had all resounding YES!

We finished hiking to YellowBelly lake and found a wonderful campsite overlooking the lake to the East, towards the White Clouds. We went swimming and played mafia, all the while amazed at the thunderclouds and lightning in the distance over the lake. 3am, i awake to hear panting outside my tent...too high pitched to be a bear, maybe a wolf or coyote or mountain lion...i will never know for i threw my pillow over my ears as to slow my beating heart. 5am, i awake again to the sound of thunder and the flash of lightning. The forecasters had gotten it right, thunderstorm early morning. Kim and i stared at each other wide eyed after every deafening boom and we began to realize after counting our one one thousands that the storm was closing in. There was a moment where the lightning was within a mile of us. Needless to say we were getting dumped on and i was praying that the bolts would find the tops of the trees and not our aluminum tent stakes. After the storm passed over we awoke to beautiful skies and lighting in the distance.

We hiked up another all-too familiar section of the trail, from yellowbelly up the toxaway drainage past tumbling waterfalls and jagged cliffs to our north, to a lake with a few islands named Farley lake. I had the bright idea of encouraging the studetns to swim to the island knowingly full well that i would be suckered into swimming with them. I think my chest still hurts from the freezing water and trying to catch my breath while swimming an olympic marathon to the islands. Michael Phelps would have been proud. We hiked back to our camp for the evening and built a warm fire and had a wonderful Bible Study around Ephesians 4.
The next morning we hiked the ridgeline back out to the car, where we promptly drove into Stanley for the best Huckleberry Milkshakes in Idaho, hands down. God is gracious. A successful student adventure indeed!

Senior High Weekend in the Sawtooths Packing List

Students,

For all to know, we will be starting our adventure through the Sawtooth Wilderness at the Hell Roaring Lake Trailhead. We will loop up to Hell Roaring Lake or Imogene Lake on the first night and camp there. The next day we will go over sand mountain divide from Imogene lake and camp on Farley lake that night. The final day we will hike out to our other car at the yellowbelly lake trailhead and be home by dinner.

Here's a detailed list of everything to pack. We will be meeting on Thursday evening at 5:30pm at the church to do a final pack of food and pack inspection for unnecessary weight. Here's the list to bring:

Essentials:
-Backpacking pack (4,000 cu/in or more, we are rounding up enough for everyone to have one hopefully, but if you have your own, even better!)
-Sleeping bag that can stuff into the bottom of the backpack
-Sleeping pad if you would like, recommended for a good nights rest...
-Hiking boots or running shoes

Accessories:
-Two Nalgene Bottles
-Hat for sun protection
-Light Flashlight
-Tooth Brush + Toothpaste (Small Ziploc works good for Toothpaste)
-Deodorant
-Sunscreen
-Journal to write or draw in
-Camera

Clothes:
-Lightweight pants for night
-Two Shirts
-Shorts for Hiking
-Lightweight bathing suit for swimming (a must for everyone)
-Fleece or down jacket that can double as pillow
-Socks, preferrably wool if you have them, if not don't worry
-Underwear
-Long Johns if you get cold easily

The Flood

We discussed "The Flood" last night at youth group. If you take the text literally, the account is staggering! A boat 450 feet long, one and half football fields...water rising over the highest mountains, Everest at 29,000, and all the animals 2 by 2 contained on one ship. How did they convince a lion or tiger to move in a docile manner to one of the cages? Mind boggling. How awesome is our God that nothing is too difficult for Him. He chooses to display his majest and glory in such odd ways sometime, but may we remember the rainbow and God's covenant with us, the objects of his promises, all of them. Creation Northwest 2008

We returned yesterday from 5 days, 4 nights of rocking out to Christian music artists and receiving deep inspiration for our faith from some great speakers. We were of course at the GORGE amphitheater in the middle of Washington State soaking up the rays and our fare share of mafia. It was a blessed time of seeing 30+ bands perform (Jeremy Camp, Switchfoot, Newsboys, David Crowder Band, Hawk Nelson, Kutless...etc.) and share their personal faith stories with us. It was inspiring for us all to see that they were people and not simply a band we hear on the radio. I had the pleasure of sitting in the VIP tent for a discussion with the band Switchfoot regarding their faith and life. I'll never forget the emphasis the lead singer, John, put on the importance of the local church in these student's lives. He spoke of how he was a student and his youth pastor's desire for him to know scripture and to know God. It was inspiring to hear someone who all of us saw that night on the main stage rock out like none other have such a deep respect for youth ministry. I'm sure some of the students and leader would tell you they are "concerted" out, i know i am. My back truly enjoyed the soft bed last night as opposed to that grassy knoll above the amphitheater.
